Tips and Tricks - Word

Show Only One Document in the Taskbar

By default, when you start Microsoft Word, each document you create or open appears in a separate window and a button is added to the Microsoft Windows® taskbar.

Multiple buttons represent each open Word document

1  Each document is represented by a button on the taskbar.

If you prefer to see only a single window and a single button on the Windows taskbar, as in the following example,

Single button on taskbar shows active document only

you can clear the Windows in Taskbar check box on the View tab of the Options dialog box (on the Tools menu, click Options).

Note   This check box is not available if you use Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0.

To toggle between open documents, click on Window and select the document you want.
