Building Blocks

Building Blocks are reusable pieces of content and may contain any thing in a Word document.  Some examples are pictures, shapes, fields, and even other building blocks.  With Building Blocks you can swap one document part for another and even share document parts with others.  For quick access, Building Blocks are stored in galleries.

To access Building Blocks and other Quick Parts from the ribbon
  1. Click the Insert tab
  2. Click Quick Parts in the Text group
  3. Select a Building Block or choose another built-in Quick Part Document Property or Field

To create your own Building Blocks from existing document content

  1. Select an area of your document
  2. Press ALT+F3
  3. Supply the appropriate info about your building block and click OK

To insert a Building Block into your document

  1. Type the name (or a portion of the name) of your Building Block
  2. Press F3
  3. Your part is inserted into your document
