Description:

How to apply the Logo Download Patch for Office XP and Office 2000 clients.

Issue/Symptom:

The firm's logo documents are modified and exceed the actual file size of 50 KB.

The firm's logos are set into the database, however, using "Get" or when a user creates a document and selects to include the firm logo, a Dr. Watson or Winword Application Error occurs.

Error Message:

Cause:

For Office XP and Office 2000 Logo Documents (i.e. Letter Logo.doc, Fax Logo.doc, etc.) may not exceed 50 KB.  

The file KIStore.dll is responsible for the transfer of logo information from the database into Word documents.  In order to provide backward compatibility with Windows 95 workstations, the 50 KB limitation is required.

If your firm's logo documents are modified and the actual file size exceeds 50 KB and your desktop operating system is not Windows 95, you may download and apply the update patch to your workstations. 

Do not apply this patch if you are using Windows 95 as your operating system on client PCs.  Contact KI Systems for alternative solutions if you are using Windows 95 clients.

Resolution:

1. From the Download section, copy the Logo Download Patch to your network.

2. Update your client PCs by copying the KIStore.dll file into either the WINNT\System32 or Windows\System32 folder and replacing the existing file.  

3.  KIStore.dll is a registered DLL file and requires registration on each client PC.  To register the file: From Start Run, type 'cmd' and click OK to execute the command prompt

4. Change folders to either Winnt\System32 or Windows\System32 based on your operating system:

     CD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and press <ENTER>

5. Execute the following command:

     regsvr32 kistore.dll and press <ENTER>
A prompt will appear informing you of a successful registration.  Click exit.

6. Type 'Exit' and press Enter to close the command prompt window

7. Open Word and open the modified logo document that exceeds 50 KB.

8. If your firm has more than one office, select the appropriate office

9. If the following message appears:

The company data in KI Admin does not match
the information in this document.

Press Yes to use this document date.

Press No to use company data stored in KI Admin.

10. Press Yes

11.  Continuously press the undo button in Word's toolbar until the undo button grays out.  Your modified Logo will appear.

12. Click Set Logo Modifications

13. Test the new logo by choosing "Get" and/or creating a new Word document based on a template and selecting to include the firm's logo.
