Issue/Symptom:

 

On June 30, 2009, Microsoft released a Hotfix (KB970942) which corrects the Document Variable bug contained in Security Patch (KB969604).  To see the complete list of items corrected in the Hotfix, please see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970942/

Please note the following text from the Hotfix Description provided by Microsoft:

“Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.”

Resolution:

Given the availability of a Hotfix, customers who are experiencing a problem with the Carry Over process in Word 2007 can remedy the problem using either of the following:

  •  Uninstall KB969604 and wait for the next formal software update from Microsoft that includes the above HotFix

  • Apply KB969604 and then apply the informal Hotfix (KB970942) listed above.  You may request the Hotfix download from Microsoft here
Application of either option above will enable the Carry Over process to function correctly for your users.
